The Ingredients of Real Food, Pesticide Free

image

This month I have been focusing on healthy food.  But food would not be healthy if it is only properly prepared using conventional ingredients.  For example, when a recipe calls for salt, I don't mean white washed table salt.  I mean a non-processed natural kind.  The same idea is for every ingredient.  They need to be the closest to natural as possible like organic for produce ( from your own garden is best, or a farmer's market).  Fair trade for chocolate, or bananas is another example.  Also, raw dairy and meats from grass-fed animals and pastured  chickens and eggs are other examples of healthy choices for real food.

Read all ingredients listed on the labels.  If you can't pronounce it, or don't know what certain weird named ingredient is, don't eat it because your body won't know either.

God created our bodies and He created foods perfect to nourish them.  After God created all food necessary and Adam and Eve, He said, "It is very good." The moment we modify the food, the body starts to break down.  Of course, it doesn't happen right away most of the time.  Research has proven repeatedly the effects of chemicals on our food.  Pesticides stay in our blood stream and don't flush out.  Thus, causing more harm to children.  The implications of the new GMO, GE and pesticides use on our food cover from the break down of our health to the pollution of the environment, to the exploitation of animals. As the Keeper of my home, I am uncomfortable feeding polluted food to my family.  And as a child of God, He calls me to not do the way the heathans do.  All of these practices have one motivator: the love of money.  We know, the love of money, is the root of all evil.

I will share a personal story.  We currently live in a farming city where pesticides are used   in some fields adjacent to residential areas and community parks.  These farmers get all suited up like they are going into space and spray, even with with airplanes over their fields.  There is no warning given to the neighbors or people playing in the park with their children.  People around the field start to get sick because of the pesticides.

imageA sign like this one was found a week after the fumigation had started.  The signs were placed in an area where no one frequents.   After seeing this, I turned to splatter of vegetables grown with pesticides and I threw them away.  Yes, you read right.  I threw the food away!

It is important to also point out that I do fall short in this area as in other areas of my life.  I don't "cheat", like some would put it.  I am not a cheater.  If I eat something contaminated,  is because I chose to.  Therefore I will be held responsible and pay whatever consequences it may bring.  I do this almost weekly, especially when we are out.  I am also, not a slave to food.  I am free in Christ.  In these situations, the reason for the food is more important to me than the food.  I teach my children to sample and taste when food is not healthy and they want to try it.  When I explain the issues involved to my children,  they seem to understand.  I don't tell them not to eat a certain food.  Occasionally I do though.  Most of the time I would sway to twinkiesfor example, " Twinkiesfor earen't very good for you, but ou can taste it."  They are learning to make good food choices.  As a rule, when we are out, we try to stay away from processed foods and choose homemade meals.

when we gain knowledge, we can act with wisdom.  With respects to nourishing our bodies, we are to take good care of them because they are not ours.  They ate the temple of the Holy Spirit and we don't belong to ourselves but we have been bought with a price.  The Word of God condemns ignorance, simple-minded, and naive.  We seek knowledge in this area so we can eat and drink for the glory of God And not for ourselves.

Here is a guide of what fruits and vegetables are most contaminated And which one would be safer to eat.  You can show this list to your children, so you can all  be in agreement when making decisions.
